Most homepages are built to impress, not to convert. They lead with company history, describe features before benefits, and bury the call to action below three scrolls of content nobody asked for.
If your homepage bounce rate is above 60% and your conversion rate is under 2%, the homepage is likely your biggest revenue leak. Here are the five fixes that consistently move the needle.
1. Lead with the outcome, not the offer
Visitors arrive asking one question: “Can you solve my problem?” Most homepages answer a different question: “Who are we?” Flip the hierarchy. Your headline should name the outcome your best customers care most about, not your company name or tagline.
2. Remove the navigation from your hero
Every link in your hero section is an exit ramp. High-converting homepages reduce navigation options above the fold, keeping attention on one primary action.
3. Put social proof next to the CTA
Trust signals work best when they are physically adjacent to the action you want taken. A testimonial three sections below your button is decorative. A testimonial directly above or beside your CTA is persuasive.
4. Write benefit-first microcopy on your buttons
“Submit” and “Learn more” tell visitors what they are doing for you. “Get my free audit” and “See how it works” tell visitors what they get. The difference in click-through rate is routinely 20–40%.
5. Test one thing at a time
Most homepage redesigns change everything at once, making it impossible to know what worked. Pick the single highest-traffic element — usually the hero headline or primary CTA — and test a direct alternative against it for two weeks before touching anything else.
These five fixes are not design changes. They are message and structure changes. They can be implemented without a developer and without touching your brand guidelines.
